FRITZ! turns 40. Four decades during which the Berlin-based company has shaped the digital home in Germany and Europe. As a market leader, as a driver of innovation, and as a reliable partner from the living room to the office. Today, there are over 50 million FRITZ! products in use worldwide. What began in 1986 with the ambition to make complicated network technology simple is now a European promise of quality: simple, secure, and reliable, with regular free updates, and that for four decades without compromise. Developed in Berlin. Made in Europe. FRITZ! is the provider for digital home and the voice of digital sovereignty. This not only includes protecting users in the home network, it also involves the commitment to open standards and reliable framework conditions at a European level.
Four decades of innovation with in-house development
FRITZ!'s story began in 1986 in Berlin. In 1995, the company introduced the FRITZ!Card to the market, which drastically simplified access to digital communication in home and work environments. With its introduction in 2004, the FRITZ!Box wrote the beginning of an unprecedented success story: a device that combined a modem, wireless router, phone system, and now even smart home hub into one single product, which was to have a lasting impact on home networking. In the following years, FRITZ! continued to expand its product portfolio for the connected home: FRITZ!Repeater and Mesh solutions that offer stable Wi-Fi throughout the entire home, FRITZ! Smart Home products for smart home applications, and FRITZ!Box models for fiber optic connections made their way into households. Its in‑house development and support are a decisive factor for FRITZ!'s success and ensures strong customer loyalty.
Setting the course for the future
In 2024, the founders left the company due to age, and FRITZ! received a new owner and new management. At the same time, a dedicated online shop was established at fritz.com, which officially launched in 2025.
Today, FRITZ! is active in over 40 countries, from Namibia to New Zealand. In its home market of Europe, the company is one of the market leaders for reliable, secure, and easy-to-use network technology.
Digital sovereignty and Europe
Since its founding, FRITZ! has been actively committed to open standards and the free choice of terminal devices in the home network. With the founding of VTKE, the company successfully fought for router freedom in Germany. With the SAFENet Alliance, FRITZ!, a company that is firmly committed to ‘Made in Europe’, extends this commitment to digital sovereignty in the home network, an area in which the router plays a central role in terms of security and stability. As a member of the Broadband Forum and Wi-Fi Alliance, for example, FRITZ! also actively participates in the further development of international standards for telecommunications and digital security. The focus is always on interoperability, security, and reliable framework conditions for consumers.
The anniversary year
FRITZ! is marking its 40th anniversary by celebrating together with its customers, sales partners, and employees throughout the year. Anniversary events are already taking place on fritz.com/en/40-years and the FRITZ! social media channels: competitions, exclusive discounts, and anniversary deals are aimed directly at the FRITZ! community. A highlight of the anniversary year will be FRITZ!'s appearance at the IFA in Berlin – in its home city, on the stage that stands for technological innovation. [Hall 7.2c, Stand 111]
